Wildlife Tours

About 13% of Sri Lanka's land area is forested. They are designated separately as National Parks, Sanctuaries and Forest Reserves. Among them, about 5700km² of territory has been reserved for national parks. Sri Lanka is a country of high biodiversity value. In fact, it has been designated as one of the 34 World Biodiversity Sites by International Forestry. In addition, the Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve has also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In 1938, Yala Park and Wilpattu Park were designated as Sri Lanka's first national parks. Also Wilpattu National Park (1316km²) is the largest national park in Sri Lanka and Yala National Park (979km²) is the second largest national park. Also Minneriya, Kaudulla, Wasgamuwa, Kumana and Udawalawa are considered as other major parks. Elephants, leopards, sloth bears, elks, spotted deer, wild boars, crocodiles, giant squirrels, wildebeests, Sri Lankan gray monkeys, hawks, eagles and other birds and snake species such as pythons and cobras can be seen. But luckily, out of 83 species of snakes, only five are deadly. Going on a safari in these national parks will be an inspiring and unforgettable experience.
